The board is a collective of diverse talents who can exceed individual knowledge because each interacts as a member of a group of intellectually accomplished professionals. A fundamental need of directorship is the ability to work in concert with this collective by interacting through pre-, concurrent-, and post-boardroom communications. Limited communications or incomplete communications decays the strength of the knowledge base and can lead to vacuous voting by outlying members of the board.

The COMMUNICATIONS FOOTPRINT allows the whole board to assess its communication architecture. Simply put, members verify the topics receiving ample and insufficient discussion; test the mutual significance of member-to-member communications, and seek to improve full engagement of all the board members.
